GTA 6 is officially happening, and it's pretty much up in the air right now. However, Rockstar Games has confirmed that it is working on the title. In February 2022, a small note in the GTA 5 Community Update revealed that active development was underway for the next entry in the "Grand Theft Auto" series.
GTA 6's unprecedented leak on September 18 saw over 90 videos and screenshots from the early, alpha development build of the game. Rockstar has acknowledged and confirmed the hack and is working to find the leaked material online. Of course, the first look at Grand Theft Auto 6 revealed some new information about the game, including details about GTA 6's locations, characters, and gameplay. So read on to find out everything you need to know about GTA 6 so far.
On September 18, 2022, an unprecedented GTA 6 leak, dozens of videos and screenshots from the game's development base was released online. Wondering if the GTA 6 leak is real? After that, Rockstar released a statement confirming the hacker: "We recently had a system intrusion that illegally accessed and downloaded confidential information from our third-party systems, including early development images for the next Grand Theft Auto."
"We are very excited to share with you all the details about our next game," Rockstar's statement continued. "We will update everyone again soon and of course we will introduce you properly when the next game is ready. Thank you to everyone for their continued support in this situation."
Within 48 hours of the GTA 6 leaks first appearing, the GTA Forums worked to prevent Rockstar from removing the rest of the illegally obtained screenshots and videos. The dedicated GTA 6 reddit also took down all the links, photos and videos of the leak (opens in a new tab) and promised to remain online with one condition: "We will allow leaks in discussions about leaks. We do not allow comments with leaked links."
Since then, major companies like Rockstar and Take-Two have spoken out about the leak. Straus Zelnik, CEO of GTA publisher Take-Two Interactive, said on a recent earnings call that the leak was "very scary," before saying that "we take events like this very seriously."
"There is no evidence that material assets were taken, which is good, of course the leak will not affect development or anything else. But it is very disappointing and makes us more
cautious about cybersecurity issues.
